The guest invoice: what it must contain

1 min read · Updated 23 September 2026

A guest asks for an invoice — for a business trip, an expense claim, or simply their own records. Here is what the document has to contain.

Required mentions

Your full identity (name, address, registration number) and, if you are VAT-exempt in France, the mention of article 293 B of the tax code. A unique, continuous invoice number, the issue date, the client's identity, the dates of the stay, a breakdown of what is charged, and the total.

The tourist tax goes on its own line. You collect it on behalf of the local authority: it is not revenue of your business.

When a company books

A company booking for an employee is a business-to-business sale, with the consequences described in the e-invoicing guide. Note that when a booking comes through a platform, it is generally you — not the platform — who issues the rental contract and the invoice for the stay.

An invoice is not a rental contract

The contract sets the conditions; the invoice records what was paid. A guest asking for "a contract" after the stay usually wants an invoice — ask before writing anything.
